About the race
The Toronto Waterfront Marathon is Canada's biggest fall marathon, run every October through downtown Toronto and along Lake Ontario. It hosts the Canadian marathon championship and has long been a favourite for runners chasing a qualifying time, because the course is flat and fast.
The 2026 race starts on Yonge Street north of Dundas, heads up to Bloor Street and west to Bathurst, then drops down to the lake. From there it runs west along Lake Shore Boulevard to the turnaround near Sunnyside, comes back through downtown, and heads east to the Beaches, turning around near Queen Street East and Beech Avenue. The last stretch returns along the waterfront and up Bay Street to the finish at Queen.
About this GPX
This file follows the 2026 course.
- 1,501 waypoints, traced from the race's own interactive course map
- Elevation on every waypoint from USGS 10 m terrain data, smoothed so the rail corridor and the roads under the Gardiner don't read as dips
- Total distance: the trace measures about 42.1 km; SummitRoom runs it as the certified 42.2 km
- Climbing: about +75 m over the course, with nothing steeper than about 2%. The biggest change is the drop from Bloor Street to the lake in the first 10 km, and the gentle climb back up Bay Street at the end
Direction: Yonge St → Bloor St W → Bathurst St → Lake Shore Blvd W (turnaround near Windermere Ave) → downtown → Lake Shore Blvd E and the Beaches (turnaround near Queen St E and Beech Ave) → Bay St to the finish at Queen.
Treadmill simulation notes
Toronto is a pace course. On a Bluetooth treadmill the incline barely moves: a gentle downhill early, a long flat middle along the water, and a slight rise up Bay Street to finish. It suits a goal-pace long run or a full marathon rehearsal.
